Brenna Biggs
NASA Airborne Science Program (ASP) Science Communications Lead
Citizen science programs empower students to engage with science in a unique way — by collecting data about their own environment. This presentation will introduce learning opportunities with the NASA Airborne Science Program as well as the NASA-sponsored GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) program. The NASA ASP uses a suite of tools to connect students to the scientists, engineers, and pilots on the plane in real time during flights. GLOBE teaches learners from formal and informal education centers to collect data in different categories: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, and Pedosphere. Students learn how to collect data using standardized procedures, or “protocols,” and then upload them to the GLOBE website, where career scientists and researchers can find and use the data that the students collected. We invite you to join us to discover more about these programs.
